Who Is Imogen Gray? - A Leap Year Day Mystery

Update: I'm not sure if I just completely missed the boat or if something has changed, but the name on the email is Imogen Reed, not Imogen Gray. Weird. There is, of course, an easy way to answer that question. It involves replying to an email. There is also a hard way. I'm choosing the latter, due to my desire to fill some space and amuse myself. I received an email today from someone calling themselves Imogen Gray. First off, nice name. With a name like that, you have to become a writer, a porn star, the editor of an underground blog about your favorite aboveground parking lot band (it's like a garage band, only you've probably never heard of it because you're old), or take on an alter-ego as a supervillain intent on destroying the world. Note: I'm going to refer to this person as a woman in the rest of this piece because it gets all awkward otherwise. The Snowblower That Ate the Internet: SOLD.

When I posted my little ad on Kijiji on Wednesday morning, all I wanted to do was sell my snowblower. I thought if I was a little creative and maybe a little funny, I'd be able to set my ad apart from all the other snowblower ads on the site. Little did I know what I was in for. Although it was my ad and my snowblower, the phenomenon itself I think belongs to the Internet. The only thing I can take ownership of are the folks who reached out to me to tell me that I gave them a laugh (to whom I have invariably responded "You owe me $1 for the laugh. Find me on PayPal."). I'm kind of a data guy in my regular life (i.e. the part of my life that currently allows me the freedom to not live in my parents' basement), so here are some numbers that I just worked out: As of when I started writing this post, my ad has been viewed 342,465 times on Kijiji. My Newest Project - Yeah But What Else

Last month, I started a new project with a good friend. The story behind the website is simple. I'd been playing with a question about music: what if one hit wonders actually had some music that was great, but was overshadowed by the success of their one hit? What if they were actually ahead of their time, and looking back at their music from the future we'd see that genius? Scott is one of the biggest music-ophiles (totally a word, trust me) I know, and when we were pitching ideas about doing something creative together it stuck. And thus was born yeahbutwhatelse . Every Friday we've been posting a review where we go back and listen to the full album from a One Hit Wonder (OHW), where we listen to every song except the hit. Sometimes there are songs we both liked. Sometimes neither of us liked the same songs. And sometimes it's very hard to find something to love.
